TRX700XX Evaluation

To All, I have had my Honda TRX700XX for about 6 months now and have finally got enough time on it to give you a realistic evaluation on it. At first, I was disappointed with it because it seemed that I spent all my time shifting and not enough time enjoying it. My "Buds" on the TRX700XX Forum suggested changing the counter shaft sprocket to a 13 Tooth instead of the 14 stocker. I took their suggestion and did it. The machine is tremendous now. As I have mentioned in the past, my riding is primarily in the desert with rocks and dirt/loose sand trails. It is unclear that any what if any top-end was sacrificed. I will probably never be able to answer that question. Top speed isn't really my thing. I have had my 2005 Yamaha Grizzly 660 for 4 1/2 years now and still find it to be an extraordinary machine. For prospecting and general nasty hills and roads it's great. I don't have any pictures but may soon. The XX is the red and black version that was for 2008. I put Honda nerfs, bumper, under side protection and grab handle on it along with a Hardline hour meter. Sure looking forward to much cooler weather. The cooling fan puts out a lot of heat so this winter will be more comfortable riding.:B Very Respectfully, Sid

RE: Haven't been around in a while...

Brad7131, Great looking truck!! Always nice to know the history on a vehicle before you buy it. Enjoy it and be sure to personalize it with a nice shiny quad in the bed. Ha,ha. Sid

RE: i need advise please.

bencr13 I think your mean 12K ($12,000). In any event, you will be able to get a nice Yamaha 450 for that with money to spare. Don't be afraid to get a year old model, new in the box. Many great deals are available now with the economy the way it is. A few extra dollars will get some options such as nerfs, guards for the suspension and underneath. You will have enough to get a good quality helmet if you don't have one already and some other protective equipment (boots, gloves, chest protection, riding suit and on and on and on). I guarantee you will still have money left over. Consider buying insurance. Good luck and ride safely. Sid

RE: Some updated pics***NEWER PICS***

YOURADHERE, Great pictures!!! Did you remove flares from the front fenders? Are the air directors for the radiator aftermarket or stock? They look great. Silicone water hoses, high-end tires and shocks are a terrific touch. Thanks for sharing your toy. Sid

RE: problem....

250exridr, I agree with WoodsRuner. If you had to clean the carburetor at the beginning of the season chances are the problem is in the fuel supply. Contaminated fuel probably caused the carb problem to begin with. There may be sediment in the strainer or in the tank. Let us know what you find. Sid

RE: ammunition

All, I went to Wal-Mart this morning to see if they might have received an ammo shipment. Much to my surprise, I was informed that one of the local gun dealers got in there immediately after the store opened. He had some of his employees with him. They emptied the shelves and left nothing. How sad!! They will mark them up and sell them themselves. The "GREED" is really kicking in. One guy standing there while I was inquiring, told me that he had bought 12,000 primers in December for $12.00 a 1,000 and was selling them on ebay for $125.00 a box of 1,000. He told me that in front of his little kid. Man-oh-man what an example he is setting for his child. Evidently he is not concerned about the ethics, Haz-mat fees he is supposed to charge for shipping these items, also no concern for the safety of carriers who transport and deliver these items. Sorry, I didn't mean to ramble. Sid

RE: ammunition

For those of us that reload, components are almost non-existent. Ammo manufacturers are trying to keep up with the tremendous surge on full-up rounds. Primers are being sold for $100.00 per 1000. Six months ago they were $12.00. California is sold out of almost everything in the ammo area. Some 22 available. Local dealers go to Wal-Mart and buy all they have soon after the freight is unloaded then resell it for twice the price. Pretty sad!!!

RE: Yamaha Grizzly 660 Oil Consumption

toyxcab, That is exactly the same gas mileage that I get on my machine. If I push it hard, 15 mpg, if I take it easy, 18 to 20. Glad it has a large gas tank. I'll bet the newer fuel injected version gets better mileage. It doesn't matter, the enjoyment factor is worth the extra gasoline. Sid

RE: Yamaha Grizzly 660 Oil Consumption

toyxcab, I have a 2005 Grizzly 660 and I change the oil every 40 hours. I also notice that after that time period the level is down about 1/4 of a quart. It uses that amount of oil if I ride long distances at a high throttle rate. If I am just cruising more slowly while I am looking for promising prospecting areas, it uses no oil at all. I have 4,000 miles on the machine (I use Yamaha 10/30 oil). Sid

RE: Suzuki King Quad (450) initial gear engaging problem

Hawkeye09, Make sure the machine is properly warmed up (no choke, if applicable) before engaging the gears. Addidionally, check that the idle speed is not too high. Throttle out slower. My Grizzly 660 idles faster on warm up with a slight amount of choke. If I take off too fast (put it into gear) it lurches dramatically. Not good for the belt and associated mechanical items. Sid

RE: it just won't crank

laraptor350, Just as a thought, I'm sure you've inspected the air cleaner and air intake tubes for debris. Also the cleanleness and quality of the gasoline. Very Respectfully, Sid
